I. INCIDENT TRIGGER — SOS FROM TEAM KAPPA-9

At 14:00 hours, Command received a distress signal from Survey Team Kappa-9, operating in a newly discovered verticality shaft in Sector 9.

• The Anomaly: Kappa-9 discovered a bank of eight elevators. One unit displayed a floor counter cycling from 1 to 99 on a continuous loop — no stop, no destination.
• The Breach: Breaking standard SOP, Kappa-9 attempted to pry the cycling elevator's doors open.
• The Casualty: Surveyor J. Doe was immediately pulled into the shaft by a violent pressure differential. The doors jammed open. Below: only darkness. From the shaft, a voice: "Is anyone there? Please help me. It's cold."

II. UNIT GEMINI RESPONSE

Due to the unknown nature of the threat, Unit Gemini was dispatched. Transit time: 40 minutes.

Upon arrival, Kappa-9 personnel were visibly startled by the Assets' appearance. Kappa-9 was unaware of the Anthropomorphic Program. Personnel were immediately debriefed and required to sign Level 5 Non-Disclosure Agreements under threat of termination before any further information was shared.

III. BIOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT

Wulfsige and Luca cleared the immediate area before approaching the elevator bank.

• Olfactory Analysis: Both Assets detected a biological signature consistent with standard Bacteria entities — but with a significant deviation they could not immediately classify.

Luca: "It smells like them — but smarter. It smells like it's trying to smell like us."

This represents a new evolutionary strain of the Complex's native fauna. Designation assigned: Homo-Mimicus (The Mimic).

IV. CONTAINMENT & THE "PUPPET" EVENT

Unit Gemini deployed a reinforced polycarbonate containment cube at the elevator threshold. The inner doors were breached remotely.

• Initial Contact: A small, erratic biological mass flew from the shaft and was successfully contained in the cube.
• The Escalation: Seconds later, the elevator car moved — revealing a service door further down the shaft. The missing crew member, J. Doe, appeared in the opening. Waving. Calling for help.

(From the shaft) "Help me! Get me out! Wulfsige, help me!"

Luca leveled his weapon immediately.

Luca: "FREEZE. DON'T MOVE."

Wulfsige did not move. His ears pinned back. He spoke over comms at barely above a whisper:

Wulfsige: "His lips aren't moving. That voice isn't coming from his throat."

Luca shined a high-lumen tactical light into the shaft. The beam revealed a dark, multi-limbed entity clinging to the shaft walls above the body of J. Doe — which it had impaled and was manipulating from above like a marionette.

V. HOSTILE RETREAT

Upon being illuminated, the Mimic entity produced a screeching sound described by both Assets as "digital feedback" — not biological, not mechanical, something in between. It dropped the body and retreated into a maintenance vent before fire could be engaged.

J. Doe: confirmed KIA. Body recovered. Formal notification issued.

VI. NEW PROTOCOL — 'SHIBBOLETH'

This incident confirms that entities within the Complex are evolving to exploit psychological vulnerabilities — specifically our instinct to respond to human voices calling for help. We can no longer trust our ears.

Effective Immediately: Protocol 'Shibboleth'

1. Daily Codeword: A random word will be issued at 08:00 hours daily (examples: "Rusty," "Sunset," "Apex").
2. Verification: If visual contact with any team member is broken for any duration, they must provide the codeword upon return before being admitted to secure space.
3. Failure to Respond: Any team member who cannot immediately provide the current codeword is to be classified as a Class-1 Mimic Threat. Lethal force is authorized without further escalation.

Sr. Officer Miller: "If you hear your friend calling for help in the dark — ask for the word. If they don't say it, that is not your friend. That is lunch."
