INCIDENT REPORT: THE "VOID-TRAP" & SENSORY OCCLUSION
CLASSIFICATION: RESTRICTED / CAUTIONARY
DATE: April 20, 2026
LOCATION: Sector 11 (Unstable Zone)
SUBJECTS: Unit Gemini (Wulfsige / Luca), Research Team Gamma-2
During a standard mapping expedition in Sector 11, Research Team Gamma-2 — escorted by Unit Gemini — encountered a new architectural anomaly. The result was the death of Researcher R. Evans and the first documented operational failure of the Assets' biological detection capabilities.
The threat was not a predator. It was the floor.
Researcher Evans stepped onto a patch of carpet that was visually indistinguishable from the surrounding surface. He fell through it immediately.
Gamma-2 deployed gravity-density scanners to map the affected area. Findings:
The floor contained three two-by-two meter "Pits" covered by what Physics Division is classifying as Sub-Minor Voids — stable, non-Euclidean pockets that render the surface visually solid but physically permeable. Step on one and there is nothing beneath you.
The critical danger is not the drop. It is the seal. The void layer acts as a hermetic barrier — it blocks airflow and dampens acoustic vibration until broken by a physical object. Until Evans stepped through, there was nothing for Luca to smell or Wulfsige to hear. The trap was invisible to both biology and standard sensors simultaneously.
The pit measured nine meters in depth. Unit Gemini anchored climbing lines and began rappelling into the void to retrieve Evans.
Midway through the descent, a voice called up from the darkness:
"Help! My leg is broken! Get me out!"
Wulfsige: "Identify. What is today's code?"
(Silence.)
Wulfsige: "I repeat — what is the code?"
(Silence. Then: the distinct rot-sweet scent of Bacteria rising rapidly up the shaft.)
Recognizing the lure, Unit Gemini aborted the descent immediately and ascended to the corridor. While the team debated re-entry options, Luca signaled for total silence and fixed his gaze on the anchor ropes.
The left rope twitched. A rhythmic vibration. Something heavy climbing up from below.
Wulfsige did not hesitate. He drew his blade and severed both anchor lines.
The rope snapped into the pit. A fraction of a second later, a high-pitched multi-tonal scream erupted from the hole — the characteristic acoustic signature of a Class-2 Bacteria attack. The entity had been ascending the line in total silence, waiting to emerge directly into the team.
This incident marks the first documented operational failure of the Assets' biological advantage. It deserves full analysis.
Researcher Evans: KIA. Remote camera probe scheduled for 18:00 hours to confirm status and map the pit floor.
End of Report.
