AEGIS DATABASE // REPORT 11

MEDICAL LOG: DIGITIGRADE ANATOMY & FOOTWEAR
CLASSIFICATION: GENERAL MEDICAL
DATE: April 08, 2026
SUBJECT: Specialist "Luca" (A-992-L)
ATTENDING: Dr. Arin Yilmaz (Bio-Engineering)

I. PHYSICAL COMPLAINT

Luca reported persistent soreness in both calves following the extended patrol in Sector 8. This is an expected and predictable consequence of his digitigrade physiology: walking on the toes and ball of the foot requires continuous engagement of the calf musculature with no opportunity to shift load to the heel. Over a multi-hour patrol, that adds up. There is no injury — this is structural fatigue from sustained anatomical demand.

II. EQUIPMENT MODIFICATION

The fabrication lab has developed and fitted Luca with the AEGIS Custom Mk.IV Tactical Boot. The design features a specialized polymer weave construction that supports his paw structure while accommodating natural digitigrade movement — a raised heel platform that mimics the joint angle he uses naturally, a reinforced flex point at the metatarsal, and a toe box wide enough to accommodate pad spread under load without compression.

Luca's assessment:

"They feel a lot better. It's weird to think about walking flat-footed like a human... or like Wulfsige. Do you guys just slap your whole foot down? That seems so clunky. I feel faster on my toes."

For the record: plantigrade gait is efficient for sustained distance. Digitigrade gait is efficient for acceleration. Both have their advantages. Luca's gait is his gait, and we are building gear to support it rather than correct it.

III. BAREFOOT PROTOCOL

Dr. Yilmaz has recommended dedicated barefoot time during off-duty hours to allow natural recovery of the foot musculature and fascia. Luca has no complaints about this recommendation. He is frequently observed barefoot in quarters and common areas — pad callousing is well-developed and adequate for standard facility flooring without injury risk. He reports that going barefoot helps him feel more grounded and physically present.

In the field and Complex sectors: footwear remains mandatory. Environmental hazard profile of active zones does not permit exceptions.

End of Report.
