THE CAFETERIA INCIDENT** "Something weird happened at lunch today. I was eating an apple (Red Delicious, the best kind), watching the security guys. Two of the guards from Delta Team were arguing. It got loud. One guy stood up and shoved the other. I froze. My instincts said 'Fight.' I wanted to jump over the table and tackle the loud one. I was already baring my teeth. But Wulfsige... he didn't jump. He just stood up. He’s huge. I forget that sometimes because he’s always slouching or sitting on the floor with me. But when he stands up straight, he blocks out the lights. He walked over to them. He didn't yell. He didn't pull rank. He didn't even look mad. He just put his hand on the angry guy's shoulder. His hand is the size of a dinner plate. The guy spun around, saw Wulfsige, and just... deflated." ### **II. THE "MAGIC TRICK"** "I thought Wulfsige was going to intimidate them. Growl, show the fangs. That’s what I would have done. Instead, he smiled. It wasn't a scary smile. It was... tired. He said, 'Hey. We're all tired. Let's take a breath, yeah?' And it worked. The guards apologized. They sat down. The whole room felt the tension snap, just like that. I asked him later how he did it. 'Did you scare them?' He looked confused. He said, 'No. I just reminded them we're on the same side. I got lucky they listened.' Lucky? He thinks it was luck. He doesn't realize that he feels like a walking safety blanket. When Wulfsige is calm, everyone else *has* to be calm. It’s like gravity. He pulls the anger right out of the room." ### **III. REFLECTION** "I want to be like that. I'm good at finding monsters. I'm good at running. But Wulfsige is good at... people. He speaks 'Human' better than the humans do. I told him he was cool. He punched me in the arm and told me to finish my apple.
