CBD INTERNAL TITLE: Director of Applied Research Partnerships
AEGIS CLEARANCE: LEVEL 3 (Contractor — Restricted)
CURRENT STATUS: CONTRACT SUSPENDED — ON-SITE ACCESS REVOKED (May 2026). REINSTATEMENT PENDING EXECUTIVE REVIEW.
⚠ STAFF ADVISORY: Any contact with Ms. Ashford or other CBD personnel — on-site or off — should be reported to Sr. Officer Miller or Director Sterling within 24 hours. This is not optional. ⚠
Full Name: Diana Ashford
Age: 46
Physical Description: 5'8", precise bearing, always dressed in a way that reads as "professional" rather than "corporate" — the distinction is calculated. Dark blonde hair, typically worn down. Eyes that are a specific shade of grey that several staff have independently described as "the color of a document you don't want to sign." She is unfailingly polite. This is not warmth.
Ashford has served as Cobalt-Black Dynamics' primary AEGIS liaison since the inception of the joint research agreement. She is not a scientist. She is the person who ensures that CBD's scientific interests are represented, protected, and advanced within AEGIS Gamma Sector — and who reports back to CBD on what AEGIS is learning, what it is producing, and what it is not sharing.
The Cobalt-Black Dynamics agreement with AEGIS predates the Gemini program by four years. It was negotiated as a resource-sharing arrangement — CBD provides materials science and proprietary sensor technology; AEGIS provides access to the Complex's dimensional phenomena for study. In practice, the arrangement has given CBD visibility into research that its parent conglomerate considers enormously commercially valuable.
Ashford has consistently lobbied to expand CBD's operational access within the facility. She has been consistently denied. She has not stopped asking.
The Fracture Event (May 2026): Three CBD field contractors, operating under Ashford's program authorization, advanced into an active reality fracture zone against the direct advisement of Specialist Wulfsige and Sr. Officer Miller. Two contractors sustained injuries classified as "non-Euclidean trauma." The third was recovered from a spatial displacement event 14 hours later in Sector 2 with no memory of the intervening period.
Director Sterling suspended CBD field operations within 48 hours. Ashford filed a formal grievance. The grievance is under review at the AEGIS Executive Board level. Her on-site access has remained revoked throughout this process.
This section is classified at Level 4. Staff below this clearance: be aware that CBD has expressed explicit interest in the Unit Gemini program. The nature of that interest is not disclosed at your clearance level. What is disclosed: under no circumstances should any information regarding the Specialists' capabilities, physiology, psychology, or operational history be shared with any CBD personnel, including Ashford, under any framing — including academic, medical, or "informal" conversation.
Ashford is skilled at informal conversation. She is skilled at appearing interested in people in a way that feels like genuine attention. It is not.
Sr. Officer Miller's formal incident report following a hallway interaction between Ashford and Specialist Luca (March 2026 — prior to field access suspension): "Ms. Ashford initiated conversation with Specialist Luca in the Corridor B commons area, apparently by chance. Specialist Luca was alone. The conversation lasted approximately four minutes. I became aware of it via O'Connell's hallway camera feed and intervened personally. Specialist Luca was unaware that anything was wrong. That is the concern."
// Note: Specialist Wulfsige, who was not present during the above incident, was informed of it by Miller. His response was not documented in the formal record. Miller's comment in an informal debrief was: "He took it well. Mostly." //
// Cobalt-Black Dynamics continues to maintain that the Fracture Event was the result of "inadequate hazard communication" by AEGIS field staff. This position is documented. It is not accepted. //
End of Record.
