ID: SUR-MAP-8841
ROLE: Senior Cartographer / Lead Surveyor — Echo-5
STATUS: RESTRICTED DUTY (Psychological Leave — Indefinite)
Full Name: Henry Dao
Age: 39
Physical Description: 5'8", slight build that reads as smaller than it is. Black hair worn long enough to pull back. Dark eyes that are still sharp even when the rest of him is not. He used to be meticulous about his appearance. Since Sector 8, he works in whatever he was wearing when he sat down. His remote office has three whiteboards covered in maps he will not let anyone photograph.
Henry Dao is one of AEGIS's most accomplished "Deep Zone" cartographers. Prior to the Sector 8 incident, he held the record for the most charted unmapped territory in facility history — Sectors 4 through 7 mapped in their entirety under his lead, a body of work that remains the most complete spatial record in the AEGIS database and is used as the baseline reference for every deep-zone deployment.
Dao led Survey Team Echo-5 during the March 28, 2026 incursion into Sector 8 — the operation that made first confirmed contact with what is now classified as a Null-Void extra-dimensional entity.
He was the first human on the team to succumb to the psionic illusion projected by the "Cathedral Trap" environment. The charred wood paneling of Room 8-B — which Specialist Wulfsige immediately identified as a synthetic construct — read, to Dao's visual cortex, as the interior of his childhood home. He became non-responsive to verbal commands within approximately 90 seconds of threshold crossing.
He was found standing motionless in the center of the room, speaking quietly in Vietnamese to someone who was not there.
Rescue: Specialist Wulfsige physically removed Dao from the room, dragging him through the breach point when he could not be verbally redirected. Dao has no memory of this. He has been told what happened. He finds this worse than remembering it would have been.
Dao, in his formal debrief, stated: "I know what I saw wasn't real. I knew it wasn't real even while I was inside it. That is the part that I cannot explain to anyone who was not there. I knew. And I stayed anyway."
Dao has formally refused re-entry to any sector below Level 2 and has not crossed the Threshold Blast Door since March 28, 2026. This refusal is documented, accepted, and not expected to change.
He currently operates from a remote office suite two floors above the Threshold level, contributing cartographic analysis and sector modeling via drone telemetry, remote sensor feeds, and data packets submitted by active survey teams. His output remains classified as Essential Personnel contribution — his spatial modeling work has directly enabled safe navigation of Sectors 9, 11, 12, and 14.
He is also a key contributor to the "Meta-Ballistic" psionic shielding research project, working alongside the Physics Division to develop environmental countermeasures for synthetic reality constructs. He believes this work is important. He will not test any prototype in the field himself.
Relationship with Unit Gemini: Dao credits Specialist Wulfsige directly for his survival. He has not been able to articulate gratitude to Wulfsige's face and has made no attempt to. He sends coffee to the Specialist Wing every Monday morning. Everyone understands what this means. No one mentions it.
// Psychological status review: Dr. Vance (Quarterly). Current assessment: functioning, contributing, not improving. Prognosis for field return: none. This is accepted. //
