ID: SEC-GRD-2201
RANK: Private First Class (PFC)
ROLE: Primary Handler / Field Support — Unit Gemini
CLEARANCE: LEVEL 4 (Attached — Unit Gemini)
Full Name: Daniel "Danny" Higgins
Age: 26
Physical Description: 5'10", athletic but lean. Sandy brown hair, always slightly overdue for a cut. Grey eyes. Freckles across the bridge of his nose that he has been teased about since basic training. He has a habit of fidgeting with the zipper pull on his vest when he's nervous — which, given his posting, is frequently.
PFC Higgins is the designated Handler for Unit Gemini during all field rotations. While Sr. Officer Miller provides strategic command authority, Higgins is responsible for the immediate logistical support of the Specialists at the ground level: hydration management, gear adjustments, rapid field first aid, and serving as the human social anchor that both Specialists rely on during high-stress deployments.
Higgins was a member of the original Beta-4 survey team present during the "Threshold Incident" on January 21, 2026 — the day Specialist Luca was first encountered. He was, by his own account, the most frightened person in the corridor. He was also the one who stepped forward first when Miller signaled the team to stand down, offering Luca a water bottle from his pack without being asked to.
The Bond: During the subsequent Bacteria ambush in the same operation, Specialist Luca physically interposed himself between Higgins and a charging entity, absorbing a glancing impact that would have been critically injurious to a baseline human. Higgins has refused every transfer offer since. He has never framed this as loyalty. He simply says: "Who else is going to make sure they eat?"
He has since completed specialized training in K9 combat medicine, non-verbal asset communication (interpretation of ear positioning, tail state, and stance micro-signals), and hybrid physiological first response protocols — a curriculum that did not exist before his posting required it. He and Dr. Yilmaz co-authored the first AEGIS field guide for hybrid personnel emergency care.
Evaluator: Dr. Elena Vance
Role in Pack: "Little Brother"
Higgins occupies the "Little Brother" position in the Unit Gemini pack structure — a role that was not assigned but emerged naturally over the first weeks of integration. His presence measurably lowers the cortisol levels of both Specialists during off-duty periods. He is one of a very small number of humans the Specialists are fully comfortable being unguarded around.
Wulfsige, who rarely touches humans voluntarily, has been observed placing a hand briefly on Higgins's shoulder after particularly difficult operations. Luca has on multiple occasions simply sat on the floor next to Higgins's chair during downtime, leaning against his leg, apparently requiring no acknowledgement of this. Higgins provides it without comment.
He has also, quietly, begun wearing a throat mic in solidarity with the Specialists' HBI collar protocol — a gesture that Wulfsige noted and never mentioned aloud.
Dr. Vance's note: Higgins may be the most naturally gifted handler this facility will ever produce. He did not learn this. He simply understood it from the beginning.
// NOTE: Higgins keeps a small supply of gummy bears in his left vest pocket at all times. He maintains this is for his own use. Specialist Luca has not commented on this. //
End of Record.
