We brought Researcher Evans back from Sector 11 today. He got separated during the 'Loop' event. He wasn't hurt physically, but his mind... he was vibrating. He couldn't speak. He just sat on the crate in the airlock, staring at his hands, shaking so hard his teeth rattled.
The medics tried to talk to him. They kept asking for his name, checking his pupils with bright lights. It wasn't working. It was just making him feel cornered.
I could smell the fear-sweat. It smells like copper and vinegar. It was pouring off him."
###
"I didn't really think about it. I just knew he needed the shaking to stop.
I told the medics to give us a minute. I took off my tactical vest so the ceramic plates wouldn't bruise him. Then I just... sat on the floor next to him.
I opened my arms. I didn't say anything. I just waited.
He looked at me. He didn't see a wolf. He just saw something soft and warm. He fell into me.
I wrapped him up. A full bear hug. I held him tight enough to keep his bones together. That's 'Deep Pressure Therapy,' right? That’s what Dr. Vance calls it. To me, it’s just holding on."
###
"I started the rumble. It’s a habit now. It starts in my chest—this low, heavy vibration. Like a generator humming. I don't even have to try; it just happens when I'm trying to comfort someone.
I felt him stiffen at first, then... melt. The vibration goes right through the ribs. It forces the muscles to let go.
I whispered to him: *'I've got you. The door is locked. Nothing gets in here. I'm not letting go until you're ready.'*
We sat there for twenty minutes. Just breathing. When he finally pulled away, he was crying, but the shaking stopped. He looked at me and said 'Thank you.'
That’s the job. The fighting is the easy part. This part—making sure they come back whole—that’s the work."
